Agency welcomes EU initiative for 5G deployment

Thursday, 22.12.2016

Agency in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Administration welcomes the 5G Manifesto for timely deployment of 5G in EU. Agency offers the frequency band 3400 - 3800 MHz for test beds for 5G projects primarily in Slovene cities. The wish is to support introduction of 5G networks in Slovenia in accordance with 5G Action Plan for Europe, COM(2016) 588. With this document European Comission wants among other guidelines to promote and financially support all 5G –PPP tests started from 2017 as well as pre-commercial 5G test-beds specially international EU projects focusing on Action 7 dealing with cross-border cooperation in EU projects for emergence of digital ecosystems based on 5G connectivity and establishing test-beds for 5G development in Europe. One of priority verticals could be use of future 5G infrastructure to improve the performance of public safety and disaster relief.

In framework of 5G Initiative, frequencies in UHF channels allocated to Slovenia in accordance to Geneva06 could be tested in limited range for high-speed wide band services up to 100 Mbit/s primarily to establish new platform for transmission of audio-visual content in unicast, multicast or broadcast (eMBMS). Test function 5G systems in these channels must be in accordance with the GE06 Agreement and shall not cause harmful interference.

Parts of the spectrum in the band 3400 - 3800 MHz (green colour in Figure) and UHF channels will be allocated on temporary basis for measurements, attestations and other tests of radio equipment available for a limited area for period in accordance with the second paragraph Art. 53 ZEKom-1.

With reference to the 5G initiative the Agency would like to encourage stakeholders to prepare proposals for 5G projects and inform Agency indicating to which vertical of the economy/society this project is primarily intended.

For this purpose the Agency will assign the needed spectrum. Since preference is given to projects, which involve partners from neighbouring and other European countries, the Agency could support such initiative using international connections to find appropriate partners. All information on 5G proposals should be addressed to the Agency (Agency for Communication Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia, Stegne 7, p. p. 418, 1001 Ljubljana, Slovenia) or sent by email to: info.box@akos-rs.si. Please make reference to subject No. : 38105-34/2016.
